      An essay written by Gautier on preeminent poet of 19th Century Romantic Decadence. It is Gautier which the "Flowers of Evil" was actually dedicated too, so this is an interesting read for historical reasons if not literary reasons. In fact, there are few literary reasons to read this, its not a great work of art- the subject is eulogized and his explorations of the subject of depravity explained away as merely offering cautionary tales, warnings away from the path of vice to that of virtue.
